GATE exam is important because of the below mentioned factors:
Campus placement in National and International companies after pursuing M.Tech.
Junior and Senior Research Fellow: IITs, ISRO, DRDO, BARC, etc.
    Junior Research Associates/Senior Project Associates.
    Grade C Scientists jobs
Placement in PSUs and R & D sectors.
    GATE 2014 Exam Pattern:
GATE Examination consists of a single paper of 3 Hours duration, which contains 65 Questions carrying a maximum of 100 Marks. The Question paper will consist of Questions of both multiple-choice type and numerical answer type. For multiple choice type Questions, candidates have to choose the answer from the given choices.
